Water Treatment Chemicals for Industrial & Commercial Use
Water treatment chemicals are added to raw water, process water or wastewater to prevent scale and corrosion, kill microbes, separate solids and make water fit for use or discharge. Here is what each family does and which ZEELCHEM™ product to choose.
Water treatment chemicals by application
1. Polymers
Use: scale inhibition and dispersion (low MW), clarification and sludge dewatering (high MW).
- Cationic – sludge dewatering, organic wastewater
- Anionic – settling suspended solids
- Non-ionic – sensitive water chemistry
- Homopolymer, copolymer, terpolymer – PAA, MA/AA, AA/AMPS, terpolymer
2. Phosphonates
Use: scale and corrosion control in cooling towers, boilers and RO systems.
3. Biocides
Use: control bacteria, algae, fungi and slime.
- Oxidising: chlorine, bromine, chlorine dioxide, TCCA 90
- Non-oxidising: DBNPA, isothiazolinone (CIT/MIT), glutaraldehyde, quats
- Cooling towers, process water, wastewater and RO pre-treatment.
4. Wastewater Treatment Chemicals
Use: treating industrial and municipal wastewater before discharge or reuse.
- Coagulants: alum, PAC, ferric chloride
- Flocculants: polymers for solid–liquid separation
- pH adjusters: caustic soda, lime, acid
- Defoamers: silicone defoamer for aeration tanks
- Nutrients: urea, DAP; odour control for H₂S
5. Other Water Treatment Products
| Product | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Antiscalant | Prevents scaling in RO and cooling systems |
| Corrosion inhibitor | Protects metal pipelines and equipment |
| Oxygen scavenger | Removes dissolved oxygen in boiler water |
| Disinfectant | Kills harmful microorganisms |
| Activated carbon | Removes colour, odour, chlorine and organics |
| pH booster / reducer | Maintains correct pH |
In short: water treatment chemicals remove impurities, control scale, prevent corrosion, kill microbes, improve settling and make water fit for reuse, discharge or industrial use.

Frequently asked questions
What are water treatment chemicals?
Chemicals added to raw water, wastewater or process water to remove contaminants, kill pathogens, prevent corrosion or scaling, and make water safe for drinking, industrial use or discharge.
Which chemicals are used in cooling towers?
Cooling towers typically use a scale and corrosion inhibitor program (phosphonates such as HEDP or DTPMP with polymers such as PAA or AA/AMPS), plus oxidising and non-oxidising biocides such as TCCA and CIT MIT.
Which chemicals are used in RO plants?
RO plants use an antiscalant dosed at 2–5 ppm before the high-pressure pump, a biocide or SMBS for pre-treatment, and membrane cleaning chemicals.
Which chemicals are used in boiler water treatment?
Boilers use oxygen scavengers, alkalinity builders, phosphate or polymer-based internal treatment such as PMA and MA/AA copolymer, and condensate treatment chemicals.
How do I know which chemicals I need?
Start with a water analysis (pH, hardness, alkalinity, TDS, silica, iron). Share it with our technical team and we will recommend products and dosages.
Need bulk quantities in carboys or drums?
Send your requirement and we reply with price, TDS/MSDS and dispatch date within 24 hours.
